The Power of Endowment Funding
The Curtis Wylie Story

Curtis Wylie and his gift to the Grand Rapids Community Foundation are a wonderful example of the power of endowment. He was successful in real estate and business and left a bequest of $6.2 million, in 1958, to the community foundation. Over time, Mr. Wylie's initial gift has grown from $6.2 million to over $22 million.

Today, Mr. Wylie's gift provides over $950,000 in annual grants to his community. His initial gift amount has been given away four times, and it will continue to be given away over and over again into the future.

Curtis Wylie's gift of $6.2 million could have been spent in 1958, and would have had a substantial impact on the community. But compare that impact to the benefit his local community continues to realize through the endowment of his gift. It is great to think that in another 40 years, this story will still be relevant -- it is not just a moment in history for Curtis Wylie and his community.

It's a growing legacy!
